Local effects of deforestation on stream fish assemblages in the amazon-savannah transitional area

Abstract The expansion of agriculture in the southeast Amazon-Savanah transitional area has greatly decreased forest cover and influenced stream structure functioning. We assessed effects loss on integrity streams by assessing physical conditions taxonomic functional diversity fish assemblages this area. hypothesize that low cover, especially adjacent to streams, results poor (e.g., warmer temperatures, less structure, etc.), which turn will decrease assemblages. detected negatively affects natural reduces assemblages, but we did not find a strong effect diversity. Ambush stalking predators, diurnal surface pickers (groups exhibit opportunistic life history strategies), grazers, pickers, browsers equilibrium strategies) were groups with strongest relation altered environments. These can explore different niches, both characteristics or human activities. Our suggest preservation riparian zones minimize specialized species Amazon-Savannah systems.
